Challenges in the times of Industrialisation is the name of an exhibition that opened on April 4, 2016 at the Casa do Território, in Vila Nova de Famalicão, portraying the most significant moments in the industrialization process in the county from the mid-nineteenth century to the present day.
Developed by ADRAVE - Regional Development Agency of Vale do Ave, with the coordination of the Municipality, the exhibition aims to highlight the importance of the historical legacy and current and future challenges for industry in Vila Nova de Famalicão.
The inauguration of the exhibition was attended by the Mayor, Paulo Cunha, Bernardino Carneiro representing Riopele management, and various entrepreneurs from Famalicão, among other county figures.
A time-line with a sociological and historical focus takes the visitor on a journey that begins with the founding companies of industrialization: Boa Reguladora (1892), Sampaio & Ferreira (1896), Riopele (1927) and Textile Manuel Gonçalves (1937).
This area of the exhibition contains wall displays on the four companies. The Riopele display consists of photographs, biographies and texts, which clearly demonstrate the importance of the company and its employees in terms of the county's industrialisation process.
In addition to these displays, the exhibition has an area of display tables which brings alive the past, showcasing documents, books and objects provided by several of the companies.
The Riopele table includes diplomas, awards and advertising posters, among other objects, highlighting the historical and social dimensions of business activity. However the future is not forgotten either, thanks to a display of innovative Riopele fabrics and the spring/summer 2017 collection book.
