The new Ambassador of Portugal to Japan, Vítor Sereno, was welcomed by Riopele, on the afternoon of 18 February 2022, as part of a series of meetings organised by AICEP (the Portuguese Trade & Investment Agency) with entities and representatives of Portuguese companies with a strong presence in the Japanese market.

José Alexandre Oliveira, Chairman of the Riopele Board of Directors, accompanied by António Soares, Riopele's market manager in Japan, took part in the meeting, which sought to convey to the Portuguese diplomatic representative a more concrete vision of Japan, rooted in advice from those with a deep understanding of this export market.

Openly stating that he shall be institutionally lobbying for Portuguese companies, the new Portuguese ambassador to Japan left the meeting with assurances that he can count on close business cooperation with Riopele to foster effective economic diplomacy to promote the ongoing relationship between the two countries.

It is important to remember that Riopele is the largest national exporter of fashion clothing fabrics to the Japanese market, knowing first-hand the realities and the difficulties companies face there. Exporting to the market ever since the end of the 1980's, the Japanese market accounts for around 5% of the company's annual turnover.

At the end of the meeting, which took place in Riopele's Noble Hall, ambassador Vítor Sereno signed the company's guest book.
