Riopele acknowledges the crucial role of the new generation of talent in shaping the future of sustainable fashion. In collaboration with Naia, the Famalicão-based textile company supports the project developed with the Escola Superior de Disseny by using Naia Renew Fibre fabrics.
The partnership with this school has supported the next generation of designers by ‘providing them with the tools and opportunities to innovate responsibly with fabrics that combine sustainability, comfort, versatility, and trendiness’, said Carolina Wilches, Application Development Engineer at Eastman.
This fibre (Naia Renew) is made from 60% sustainably sourced wood pulp and 40% certified recycled waste that would otherwise end up in landfills. It is biodegradable and features patented technology from Eastman, offering a solution for hard-to-recycle waste. It also boasts a reduced carbon footprint and is produced in a closed-loop system.
Riopele, focusing on creating innovative and sustainable fabrics, has developed a product strategy that aligns with a broad sustainability context and Eastman's policy. ‘We believe in the power of education to promote a more sustainable future, which is why we prioritise initiatives that enhance students' learning and development’, concluded Carolina Wilches.
It is worth noting that Riopele aims to produce 80% of its products within sustainability categories by 2027.
